Speaking at the innovation forum in the health sector on June 6, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized that in recent times, digital transformation of health has made an important step forward: 100% of medical examination and treatment facilities deploy hospital information systems; many medical facilities deploy electronic health books on VneID, remote medical examination and treatment, application of electronic prescriptions and artificial intelligence to support treatment, use robots in surgery.
However, digital transformation of healthcare still has many difficulties and challenges such as infrastructure, information security systems, and network security not being synchronous; digital transformation is not uniform among fields; high-quality medical human resources are still lacking, not meeting practical requirements.
In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed many shortcomings and limitations, especially in preventive medicine, grassroots health care, and the ability to supply drugs and medical equipment.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the above issues pose an urgent need for innovation in leadership and direction to strongly and comprehensively implement the work of taking care of people's health.

Regarding some orientations in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister said that it is necessary to strongly promote comprehensive digital transformation of healthcare, ensuring efficiency and savings in the context of limited resources.
Effectively deploy electronic health books, electronic medical records, electronic prescriptions; connect data in the fields of health and health insurance.
Strengthen research, development, and application of science and technology, especially artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, the Internet of Things, etc. in providing medical services.
In addition, promote scientific research, improve the capacity of research centers, testing, high technology, laboratories and scientific research facilities; prioritize research in the field of biotechnology, monitoring and early warning of epidemics, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment.
Strongly promote the domestic pharmaceutical industry, improve autonomy in drugs, vaccines, biological products, pharmaceutical ingredients and medical equipment.
Focus on researching and producing new drugs, inventive drugs, high-tech drugs, medicinal drugs, vaccines, biological products.
Strengthen public-private cooperation, joint ventures, and associations, ensure efficiency and transparency; create favorable conditions for the private sector to invest, provide high-quality medical services, conduct scientific research, and produce drugs, vaccines, and medical equipment.
Encourage the development of private hospitals, large-scale research centers with specialized technical qualifications, medical facilities in remote, isolated, border, and island areas; care facilities for the elderly, people with disabilities, children, etc.
