On March 13, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper to discuss priority areas to promote bilateral cooperation on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Ambassador Marc Knapper's efforts in promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, maintaining a stable development momentum with many positive results, including maintaining and promoting high-level contacts, notably the very successful phone call of General Secretary To Lam with President Donald Trump before and after his election.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US a partner of strategic importance; affirmed the consistent message of General Secretary To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders especially attaching importance to and wishing to cooperate closely with the Trump administration to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, maintain a stable and increasingly substantial development momentum, go into depth, effectively implement the contents of the Joint Statement and the Action Plan to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the common interests of the two countries.
In the context of the two countries conducting activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Prime Minister suggested that the Ambassadors and Embassies coordinate with relevant Vietnamese agencies to implement measures to deepen cooperation, including promoting visits and contacts at all levels, especially at high levels.
The Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to continue to make economic - trade - investment cooperation a bright spot and driving force of bilateral relations. The Prime Minister said that Vietnamese ministries and branches are actively addressing the current concerns of the US side in economic - trade - investment relations, including the assignment of the Minister of Industry and Trade as a Special Envoy to work in the US to co-chair the mechanism of meetings of the Trade and Investment Council (TTIFA). The Prime Minister said that Vietnam's ministries, branches and relevant agencies are actively reviewing import tax rates for goods from the US, encouraging increased imports of US key products that Vietnam has a need for, especially agricultural products, liquefied gas and high-tech products.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Vietnamese Government always pays attention to creating conditions for the activities of US businesses and investors in Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam wishes to build a balanced, stable, harmonious and sustainable economic - trade - investment cooperation relationship with the US, for the common interests of the two countries. The Prime Minister also suggested that the US continue to take steps towards recognizing Vietnam as a market economy and creating conditions for Vietnam to import high-tech equipment from the US.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister requested the Ambassador and the Embassy to continue to mobilize the US Government and Congress to strengthen projects to support overcoming the consequences of war in Vietnam, especially the dioxin detoxification project at Bien Hoa airport, support people with disabilities and war victims, support the search for Vietnamese soldiers to sacrifice; transfer technology and improve the capacity to assess the DNA of Vietnamese martyrs.
Thanking the Prime Minister for his recognition and appreciation, Ambassador Marc Knapper pledged to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese ministries and branches to promote and further deepen the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Ambassador affirmed that the US prioritizes the development of relations with Vietnam on the basis of respect for the political institutions, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Vietnam, support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam; wishes to expand cooperation in all fields, including cooperation to overcome the consequences of war, national defense - security, education - training, support Vietnam in training high-quality human resources and human resources in the semiconductor industry, cooperate with Vietnam in exploiting essential minerals and researching and developing nuclear energy.
