Vietnam - Russia open new cooperation directions including defense and security

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is ready to cooperate closely with Russia to elevate relations on key pillars.

On May 9 (local time), in Moscow, General Secretary To Lam met with President of the United Russia Party, Vice Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

President of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that General Secretary To Lam's visit this time will contribute to deepening the traditional friendship and trust between the two Parties and countries.

The President of the United Russia Party expressed his confidence that Vietnam will continue to walk steadily on the path of sustainable development, independence, comprehensive and extensive integration.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at attending the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, paying an official visit to Russia and meeting friends and comrades again to feel the warm and special affection that the Russian leaders and people have for Vietnam.

The General Secretary emphasized the victory in the great national defense war contributing to the victory of the August Revolution, the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Victory Celebration is an opportunity to honor the contributions of the Soviet Union and the progressive force in the world, while reminding the younger generation to record the sacrifices and loss of his father for peace and freedom.

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated Russia's dynamic development under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin and the United Russia Party, and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to strengthening and expanding the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia.

The General Secretary emphasized that the cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party is a solid foundation to promote bilateral relations in all fields.

In the context of many rapid changes in the international arena, Vietnam attaches special importance to traditional friendship and is ready to cooperate closely with the Russian Federation to elevate relations on key pillars such as politics, security - defense, energy, education - training, culture and people-to-people exchange.

The two leaders agreed on many major directions to strengthen relations between the two Parties and the two countries.

First of all, the two sides affirmed that they will continue to strengthen political trust through high-level exchanges and close cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party, the foundation for a long-term sustainable relationship.

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries' youth to continue the tradition of relations between the two Parties and peoples.

The two sides also discussed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and at the same time open up new areas of cooperation, including defense, security, oil and gas, economy - trade, science - technology, transport infrastructure, aviation, aerospace, artificial intelligence, education - training, cyber security, culture, tourism.

The two leaders also had in-depth discussions on regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to strengthen coordination in regional and international forums, especially the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN, etc.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam respectfully invited President of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev to soon visit Vietnam.
