Vietnam is ready to send experts to support Timor-Leste

Vietnam is ready to share development experiences, train human resources and send experts to support Timor-Leste in areas suitable to its needs.

On the afternoon of June 9, in Hanoi Capital, after a solemn welcoming ceremony, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held talks with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao.

At the talks, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Prime Minister Xunana Gusmao agreed that Vietnam and Timor-Leste have many potentials and advantages to further expand cooperation, for the benefit of the people of the two countries as well as contributing to the stable, self-reliant and sustainable development in the region.

The two Prime Ministers welcomed the signing of cooperation documents on visa exemption, educational cooperation and information and communication during the visit, creating an important foundation for strengthening people-to-people exchanges and expanding cooperation in various fields.

Regarding economic - trade - investment cooperation, the two leaders agreed that it is necessary to better exploit potentials and strengths to complement each other; soon ratify and effectively implement the Bilateral Trade Agreement; promote cooperation in the fields of rice, agricultural products, seafood, textiles, footwear, essential consumer goods, telecommunications, digital transformation, infrastructure, agriculture and services.

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste requested Vietnam to continue to supply Vietnam's strong products to the Timor-Leste market, especially rice, contributing to ensuring food security for Timor-Leste; highly appreciated the investment of Vietnamese businesses, especially Viettel with the Telemor brand, which has made positive contributions to the development of digital infrastructure and connectivity in Timor-Leste; expressed his desire to continue to welcome Vietnamese businesses to invest in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, tourism, infrastructure and resource exploitation.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed that the two sides promote negotiations and sign an Agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection, and study establishing bilateral mechanisms on economy, trade, and investment to promptly support businesses.

The two leaders also agreed to expand cooperation in potential fields such as national defense - security, agriculture, fisheries, food security, education - training, human resource development, culture, tourism, sports, transportation connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges of experiences on sustainable agricultural development, climate change adaptation, marine economic development, sustainable fisheries, and cooperation in aquaculture, exploitation and seafood processing.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung affirmed that Vietnam is ready to share development experiences, international integration, human resource training and send experts to support Timor-Leste in areas suitable to your needs.

At the end of the talks, the two sides agreed to direct relevant ministries and sectors to implement the agreements and common understandings reached, contributing to bringing Vietnam - Timor-Leste relations to develop more deeply, practically and effectively.

On this occasion, the two sides witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents including: Memorandum of Understanding on higher education cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture of Timor-Leste; Memorandum of Understanding on educational cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste; Agreement on visa exemption for people holding ordinary passports between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Timor-Leste, Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Vietnam News Agency and TATOLI News Agency.
