On August 6, the Phong Nam Commune Party Committee, Can Tho City held the 1st Commune Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030.
The Congress approved the list of 27 members of the Commune Party Executive Committee and 9 members of the Standing Committee. Mr. Huynh Quoc Quy was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the Commune Party Committee.

In the 2020 - 2025 term, Phong Nam Commune Party Committee has focused on leading the restructuring of crops and livestock according to the plan, shifting the economic structure in the agricultural sector, forming suitable production areas, and adapting to climate change. The value of handicraft production, total circulation of goods and retail sales all exceeded the resolution's targets.
Resource management, environmental protection, and climate change response have been implemented synchronously. The commune also regularly monitors and handles landslides, proactively plans to prevent and combat natural disasters, and ensure people's safety.

Phong Nam is one of 8 commune-level administrative units of Can Tho City that are not subject to arrangement. Phong Nam was formerly in Ke Sach district, Soc Trang province. This is an island commune, with a geographically isolated location and difficulty organizing traffic connecting to adjacent communes, mainly traveling by ferry and boat.
With this characteristics, Phong Nam commune is not subject to compulsory reorganization according to the provisions of Clause 3.1, Section 3 of Conclusion No. 137-KL/TW of the Politburo, the Secretariat and Article 3 of Resolution No. 76/2025/UBTVQH15 dated April 15, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the reorganization of administrative units in 2025, which stipulates "Do not reorganize administrative units with isolated locations".
