After the success of the August Revolution, on the morning of September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, on behalf of the people and the Provisional Government, President Ho Chi Minh respectfully read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam).
