The Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway project has a total length of 121 km, divided into 2 investment phases with a total investment of nearly VND23,000 billion.
Stretching through Lang Son and Cao Bang, phase 1 of the project is more than 93km long, including 2 mountain tunnels and 64 overpasses across the Ky Cung and Bang Giang rivers along with countless streams and provincial roads. With Karst geological structure and harsh terrain, and prolonged natural disasters and floods in the area, this is one of the most challenging expressway projects in the country today.
Despite challenges in terrain, geology and natural disasters, the project aims to open about 65 - 70 km of the route on the sections before December 19, leaving some large bridges over the river, landslides and cajuput bridges, striving to open the entire route on asphalt concrete and crushed stone, except for some sections of the bridge.

At the Km11 construction site (Van Lang commune, Lang Son province), the contractor is mobilizing vehicles carrying asphalt concrete, deploying a modern carpet line with many rolling equipment, paving the road surface with asphalt concrete for a length of about 150 m.
This is also the first stage of asphalt paving, marking an important milestone in the construction process, affirming the commitment to the technical progress of the route opening this December.
The hot asphalt paving process is carried out with strict technical requirements. The rolling layers are applied in many steps to ensure the road surface is flat and compact according to current standards and regulations. After paving the first 150 m of asphalt concrete, the contractor and the supervision consulting unit will evaluate the technical specifications, moving towards mass paving the entire route.
Mr. Dang Tien Thang - General Director of Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway Joint Stock Company, said that the construction volume after the flood period has been increased to compensate for the progress. Up to now, the output value has reached VND 5,458/6,828 billion, equivalent to 80% of the plan to open the route in phase 1.
According to Mr. Thang, on the one hand, while racing against progress, contractors still strictly control the quality of the project and labor safety conditions. Currently, the project enterprise is directing contractors to actively mobilize additional machinery, equipment, and personnel, and simultaneously deploy construction in the gasoline item to strive to open the route before December 19.
Although the recent floods have created great pressure, all officers, engineers and workers at the project clearly determined to make every effort to clear the route on time. That is our commitment to the Government, localities and especially to the people, Mr. Dang Tien Thang shared.

As an investor and contractor for the project, Mr. Nguyen Ba Khuong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the 568 Construction Investment Group said that the construction intensity on the entire route is being maintained at a very high level. The construction teams work 22/24 hours a day, taking advantage of each time frame to make up for the progress after the flood. Many locomotives had lunch right in the cabin to start the new shift, expressing their determination to "cks up with the construction site" to ensure progress as committed.
During the inspection of the Dong Dang - Tra Linh project site on the night of December 1, Mr. Le Hai Hoa - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Bang province, highly appreciated the spirit of urgent work, working through the night in cold weather conditions of the engineers and workers.
According to Mr. Le Hai Hoa, in the context of strong growth in tourism and border economy in Cao Bang province, the early operation of the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway will create a strong breakthrough for the entire region in the coming time.
To resolve the backlog in site clearance, the leaders of Cao Bang province affirmed that they will closely coordinate with Lang Son province in the spirit of "no hesitation, no delay in progress", so that contractors can work with peace of mind and speed up production.
Sharing at the construction site, Mr. Pham Duy Hieu - Director of the General Contractor Management Board affirmed that the goal of opening the route on time is a big priority, but not because of that, the quality of the project is exchanged. For some locations with roadbeds up to 20m high, even though they have been constructed to the K98 peak and are qualified to be paved with the base layer or the route is cleared on the asphalt concrete layer, the General Contractor still decided to continue monitoring the subsidence of the roadbed. Only when the parameters are stable will the road surface layers be deployed, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the expressway.

The leaders of Cao Bang province called on investors and contractors to mobilize maximum human and material resources, increase construction shifts in the spirit of "warrior" to increase productivity and output every day. Along with that is ensuring progress, quality of works, labor safety and environmental sanitation, bringing the project to the finish line on time with honor and responsibility to the Party, State and people.
The team of engineers and workers need to work hard every day, every hour, speed up the construction progress, complete the technical route of phase 1 according to the plan, contributing to the whole country in achieving the target of 3,000 km of expressway, extending from Cao Bang to Ca Mau, welcoming the 14th National Party Congress, said Mr. Le Hai Hoa.
This year's rainy season started early and has lasted continuously from May until now, with an average of 2022 rainy days per month. From the beginning of November to November 19 alone, 10 consecutive rains were recorded. Land in areas with high lightning content makes digging and filling difficult, directly affecting construction productivity.
