Gen Z Bankers
After graduating from university in 2021, Thu Thuy became a recruitment collaborator at Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB).
What impressed this girl born in 1999 the most was the professional and friendly working environment at SHB, where colleagues were always friendly and supportive of each other. That was completely different from her previous thoughts - "banking is a dry, somewhat mature workplace with few opportunities for freshers".
Experiencing a great working environment with many opportunities to learn and develop, Thu Thuy decided to stay with this bank for a long time. The former collaborator has now become a recruitment specialist of SHB, much more mature and confident than before.
“When the department head suggested that I take the recruitment branding course, a question flashed through my mind: ‘Am I really trusted?’. And that was the moment I felt like I was a part of SHB,” Thuy shared.
Hoang Lam (born in 2000) used to work in other fields before interning at SHB since May this year. Instead of “serving water and making tea” as people think of the job of an intern, Lam was welcomed by the staff at the corporate customer service department - Hanoi Branch, given the opportunity to work practically and enthusiastically guided.
“I learned a lot during my internship at SHB, especially about time management skills. The passion and enthusiasm for work of the Bank's employees have inspired me a lot,” said Hoang Lam.
Young people like Thuy and Lam belong to the Gen Z group – the generation that is gradually entering the labor market and will become the main human resource in the future of the banking industry. According to a report by auditing firm PwC Vietnam, by 2025, this group will account for nearly 1/3 of Vietnam’s working-age population.
Born in the era of technology and the Internet boom, Gen Z has many different characteristics compared to previous generations of employees. Generation Z is highly appreciated for its creativity, dynamism and critical thinking.
They are very interested in personal and professional development, often proactively seeking training and experience opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge.
According to the results of some surveys, Gen Z employees also tend to seek work-life balance and value flexibility more than previous generations.
Besides, they often value transparency and meaning in work, as well as want to work for organizations that are at the forefront of implementing social responsibility and contributing to the development of the country.
SHB – Bank creates modern and professional working environment
As one of the 5 largest private commercial banks in Vietnam, SHB always pays attention to training, developing human resources and providing career opportunities for young people.
Mr. Do Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Director of SHB, said that when recruiting positions related to transformation and digitalization, the age of personnel joining SHB has become much younger, including those born in the 10x generation.
“I was surprised that even though they were very young, they had enough knowledge and experience to immediately meet the job requirements,” said Mr. Vinh.
According to Mr. Vinh, young people today are interested in a civilized, modern, flexible, unconstrained working style and have enough conditions for creative development. Understanding that, SHB is striving to create a “limitless” working environment, aiming to build a Bank of Future model.
SHB has been building a modern working environment with the new Agile working method, international standard office design and was honored by the Asia Awards Organization as “Asia's Best Workspace”.
Last August, the Bank was honored by HR Asia Magazine as “Best Workplace in Asia 2024”. This is the fourth time SHB has received this prestigious award. Also in 2024, SHB was honored by Finance Asia Magazine as “Bank with the Most Diverse, Equitable & Inclusive (DEI) Workplace in Vietnam” at the Finance Asia Awards.
These awards are a testament to the Bank's commitment and efforts in creating a friendly, dynamic and innovative working environment.
Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Do Quang Vinh once emphasized that SHB aims to build a modern working environment but more importantly, a strong organization, connecting employees and continuing good traditions and values with cultural depth throughout 30 years.
The Bank is and will continue its journey of creating and developing a 6T culture, based on 6 core values: Heart - Trust - Faith - Knowledge - Intelligence - Vision.
SHB is on a journey of strong and comprehensive transformation with one of the four important pillars being “People are the subject”. The bank is constantly improving the quality of human resources through many internal training programs.
SHB employees are given the opportunity to develop comprehensively, thereby improving work efficiency and enhancing service quality. This not only contributes to the success of each individual but also promotes the sustainable development of the bank, helping SHB to continuously reach further.
