LD25009: Sick mother, depressed father, 3 children's school is even more difficult

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - The wife is sick, the husband is depressed, the path of education of the three children is facing many difficulties.

We followed a small dirt road leading to the simple charity house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoa (born in 1978, Long Ho, Vinh Long).

This place with four walls witnessed this resilient woman struggling to cope with the evil waterlogging disease that took away her vision, the silent blood clotting disorder that eroded her health, and the recurrent acane breast tumor.

Ms. Hoa confided about her family's situation with two lines of tears: "I discovered a breast tumor and blood clotting disorder in 2015 and from the beginning of 2025 until now, eye problems are getting worse, leading to my left eye not seeing anything".

As for her husband, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam (born in 1979), who used to be the main breadwinner in the family, after a work accident in 2016, he has since fallen into a persistent depression and had to take medicine every day. All the economic burden fell on her weak shoulders.

According to Ms. Hoa, before, when her health was good, she worked as a longan pecker, earning about 50,000 VND/day. After suffering from a stroke, she was helpless, only able to live by the love of neighbors and donors during holidays and Tet.

"Seeing my three children as servants, good at studying, and heartbroken. The children are all hopes, but their path to school is becoming more difficult than ever," Ms. Hoa said chokingly.

Mr. Hai Minh - a neighbor of Mrs. Hoa's family - said that everyone in the neighborhood loves her family when they have to shoulder the burden of raising three elderly children, and many other diseases.

"Sometimes, we people contribute a few signs of rice, sometimes a few tens of thousands of VND for Ms. Hoa's family to buy vegetables and medicine. Children are Obedient, very studious, and loving when looking at them. I just hope that there will be a miracle to help Ms. Hoa's wife and husband have less suffering and have money for treatment, so that they can go to school with peace of mind," Mr. Hai Minh added.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Phu commune, Long Ho district - said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoa's family is a poor household.

According to Mr. Tam, despite certain supports, the difficulties that her family is suffering are still too great.

"The local government enthusiastically calls for the community to join hands so that children can continue to steal books to go to school and the unfortunate wife and husband have more opportunities to treat their illness and find some light in their lives," Mr. Tam added.
