We went to Quoi An commune, where the brick house, which is more than half a century old, is located deep in a small alley, degraded and stained by time. In the small house, Le Thi Thao Trang, 12 years old, wearing an artificial antics, tried to keep her smile amid the pain of illness.
Trang has just undergone an artificial anorectomy after the doctor diagnosed a rectal perforation. The specialized handbag worn on the side of the child makes daily activities, studying and traveling extremely inconvenient.
Mr. Le Van Quoc (Thau Trang's father) said that at the end of August 2025, Trang continuously had severe abdominal pain. Thinking that his illness was mild, he only bought medicine to take. When he was admitted to the hospital, he heard the doctor announce his serious condition, and almost suffered a stroke out of fear for his child.
The initial cost of surgery and treatment of more than 15 million VND left the family at a dead end. The family has no land for cultivation, and the income from carrying rice for hire is unstable every season, forcing Mr. Quoc to borrow money from everywhere to save his children.
Trang has to replace two medical bags every day at a cost of nearly 200,000 VND. When you add money for medicine, check-ups and meals, your expenses increase rapidly. The income of several million VND per month makes Mr. Quoc always live in a state of constant shortage.
After his wife died of a stroke more than three years ago, Mr. Quoc alone took care of the family. His health gradually declined, his work was hard but he still had to try hard for his children.
Despite carrying the bag on her hips, Trang still tried to go to class regularly. But every step and every movement caused Trang to feel pain and always had to be reserved to avoid colliding with the wound area.
"The treating physician said that after the Lunar New Year 2026, Trang will be re-examined for her health condition before she can have an artificial anastomy. This process is long and expensive, requiring regular monitoring, making it even more difficult for the family," Mr. Quoc added.
Thao Trang's neighbor said that Mr. Quoc's family has been poor for many years. Every time the blender is unemployed, people hire him to work as a sideline to earn some more money. But neighborly love is only a small part, not enough to overcome the burden of constant illness.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - President of the Women's Union of Quoi An commune said that this is one of the difficult cases in the locality. The Association will support within its capacity and advise all levels to have a better level of support. However, the cost of treatment is too high, so it is necessary to have the cooperation of the community.
She emphasized that if there were more support resources, Trang could have the correct surgery regimen and continue to go to the classroom more safely. Every contribution, no matter how small, is a hope to help the father and son overcome the difficult period.
