The Lao Dong Newspaper Legal Consulting Office replied:
Clause 1, Article 47 of the 2022 Law on Emulation and Commendation stipulates that the "Fatherland Protection Medal" of the Third Class is awarded or posthumously awarded to individuals in the People's Armed Forces who comply with the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State and meet one of the following standards:
a) Have outstanding achievements in combat, combat service, training, building forces, consolidating the national defense, people's security, having an area of influence in the entire military region, army, army, service, general department and equivalent under the Ministry of National Defense or the force system in the People's Public Security;
b) Having inventions, inventions, scientific and technological works or outstanding works at the level of ministries, departments, branches, and provinces on national defense and security recognized by competent agencies and organizations;
c) Having been awarded the "Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit" and then continuously for 05 years or more until the time of application to be recognized as having completed the task well or better, during that time having been recognized for 01 year or more as having completed the task excellently and having been awarded the title of "Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level" by the Ministry of National Defense or the Ministry of Public Security 03 times;
d) Having a long-term contribution to the People's Armed Forces.
Point h, Clause 1, Article 51 of Decree 152/2025/ND-CP (effective from July 1, 2025) stipulates the bonus level for the Third Class "Lager Medal", the Third Class "Hit award", the Third Class "Fatherland Protection Medal" and the "Brave Medal" as 4.5 times the basic salary.
According to Decree 73/2024/ND-CP, the current basic salary is 2,340,000 VND/month.
Thus, from July 1, 2025, soldiers awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal will be awarded VND 10,530,000 (VND 2,340,000 x 4.5) according to the above regulations.
