Clause 2, Article 12 of the consolidated text of Circular 08/VBHN-BNV dated October 27, 2022 of the Ministry of Home Affairs guiding the organization and operation of villages and residential groups, regulating the term of office of Village Head, Residential Group Head and Deputy Village Head, Deputy Residential Group Head as follows:

a) The term of office of the Village Head and the Head of the Residential Group is 2.5 years or 5 years as determined by the Provincial People's Committee in accordance with the specific conditions of the locality. In case of establishment of a new village or residential group or vacancy of the Village Head or the Head of the Residential Group, the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee shall decide to appoint a temporary Village Head or the Head of the Residential Group to manage the activities of the village or residential group until a Village Head or the Head of the Residential Group is elected within a period of no more than six months from the date of the decision to appoint a temporary Village Head or the Head of the Residential Group.

b) The term of office of the Deputy Village Head and Deputy Head of the Residential Group shall follow the term of office of the Village Head and Head of the Residential Group.

Thus, the term of office of the village chief is 2.5 years or 5 years as determined by the Provincial People's Committee in accordance with specific local conditions.
