Ba Danh Pagoda (Bao Son Tu) is located in Danh Xa village, Ngoc Son commune (Kim Bang, Ha Nam) with typical Mahayana Buddhist architecture.
According to legend, the pagoda worships a sacred goddess who controls the wind and rain, helping crops to be bountiful. The goddess is known as the Lady of Danh village, and later people used to call it Ba Danh pagoda for short.“My family and I live in Ho Chi Minh City and work in Hanoi. From the first time I visited Ba Danh Pagoda, I really liked the peaceful atmosphere here. Every time I go to the North, I try to arrange time to return to Ha Nam to visit the pagoda. This is the 10th time I and my family have returned to this place,” Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan Trang shared.Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan Trang (Ho Chi Minh City) offers flowers to the Mother Goddess temple.Ba Danh Pagoda worships Buddha, Bodhisattva, Dharma Protectors and Taoist gods such as Thai Thuong Lao Quan, Nam Tao, Bac Dau. In particular, the pagoda also worships Phap Vu - one of the Four Dharmas (Phap Van, Phap Vu, Phap Dien, Phap Phong) according to folk beliefs.At first, the pagoda was just a simple structure in the middle of the forest, along the Day River. In the Vinh Tri year of King Le Hy Tong (1676-1680), the pagoda was rebuilt in a spacious manner.Ba Danh Pagoda has many interconnected architectural items, including the three-door gate, main hall, left wing, right wing, ancestral house and many other auxiliary works. Currently, this place still preserves many rare antiques and ancient books.According to the introduction of Ba Danh Pagoda Relic, Ba Danh Pagoda Festival usually takes place on the 16th-17th of the second lunar month every year.
Ba Danh Pagoda is known as the “most deserted pagoda”, associated with the popular saying “as deserted as Ba Danh Pagoda”. The pagoda is located on a piece of land in Danh Xa village, Ngoc Son commune, Kim Bang district, Ha Nam.
The temple was built in the 7th century, on a land area of about 10 hectares.
Ba Danh Pagoda used to be located in a secluded location, far from residential areas, surrounded by rivers on three sides, dense forests, a single path, and in the past there were many wild animals. In the past, the only safe way was to row a boat across the Day River, but because of the inconvenience, pilgrims were few.
