“The initial idea for the film came about last year, when I had the opportunity to attend a friend’s wedding where the bride would be entering a wealthy family. Immediately after that, I called director Vu Ngoc Dang to discuss developing this fascinating topic,” producer Will Vu shared about the film’s early development.
For director Vu Ngoc Dang, his initial feelings for the script were excitement and interest. Since the producer's call, he believes that this story will receive great attention from the audience when it explores the hidden corners surrounding being a daughter-in-law of a wealthy family - one of the topics being discussed a lot on social media platforms.
Director Vu Ngoc Dang also said that the fake lifestyle (referring to people who live a fake, flashy life on the outside, covering up the ugly truth on the inside) is also a topic he has been interested in for quite a while because today's society is gradually exposing many cases where a little bit of fame on social networks has been shown off too much.
At the same time, to increase the appeal of the film, he expanded this character: "A girl in a tent is not too unfamiliar to the audience, but a whole family choosing to live in a tent is completely new."
Producer Will Vu also shared the difference of the film compared to previous works: “This is the first time I want to produce a project inspired by social issues, the gap between the rich and the poor under a family love story with a bit of satire. Through that, it exploits the difference in viewpoints and conflicts in emotions between two different classes.”
In addition, director Vu Ngoc Dang also exploited the material for the film based on his personal views on the upper class life: "Ten percent of the film's content was based on many stories that I heard about the brides of wealthy families in Vietnam. Sometimes I was surprised because it turned out that stepping into the door of a powerful family was completely different from my imagination of that world."
"The Rich Bride" also marks a change in the genre Will Vu works in. For the first time choosing to exploit the theme of family, he confided: "Stories about women have always had a special attraction for me personally and the character Tu Lac in "The Rich Bride" is an example. This will be both a new challenge and opportunity, because this time I will try my hand at a genre I have never done before - family".
The cast of this film includes: Thu Trang, Kieu Minh Tuan, Uyen An, Samuel An, Le Giang, and People's Artist Hong Van. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 18, 2024.
