Newtopia movie director says Blackpink's Jisoo fits 99% of the character

Blackpink's Jisoo takes on the role of a "Gomsin" (a term for women whose boyfriends are serving in the military) in the new drama "Newtopia".

The photos released by the crew show Jisoo playing Yeongju, a female university student sitting alone in a lecture hall with many male engineering students.

Later, she receives a date invitation from a guy. However, in another scene, Jisoo is scared when zombies suddenly appear, creating dramatic situations.

Even though Seoul is invaded by zombies, Yeongju - played by Jisoo - is still determined to boldly approach and help her boyfriend.

Jisoo shared, "I was drawn to Yeongju's charm from the start and felt compelled to breathe life into this character."

Director Yoon Seong Hyun praised Jisoo, saying, "Her humorous personality and unique charm match 99% with the character Yeongju."

"Newtopia" is a story set in the zombie world of Korea. Yeongju (a gomsin), and Jaeyun (a soldier), they cross Seoul full of zombies to reunite. Based on the novel "Influenza", the film will premiere on February 7, 2025 at 8 p.m. Korean time.

Kim Ji-soo, commonly known by her stage name Jisoo, is a South Korean singer and actress. She is best known as a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, formed and managed by YG Entertainment.
