The security force has handled the situation appropriately
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on May 24, at Thai Hoa Palace (Hue Imperial City), Ho Van Phuong Tam (born in 1983, residing in Huong Long Ward, Phu Xuan District, Hue City) committed an act of violating national treasures - the throne of the Nguyen Dynasty.
Despite being reminded by the security guard, the subject continued to invade the throne display area, scream and broke the left armrest of the throne.
After the incident, the public kept asking the question "Where to protect, what to do to make this rare situation happen?".
Responding to the above issue, Mr. Hoang Viet Trung - Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center (Center) said that when synthesizing objective information from the authorities, it can be seen that the security force has handled the situation in appropriate conditions.
At first, when they discovered that this man was acting loudly, the security force invited him out. However, after that, this person returned and sneaked into the throne area. The security guard approached cautiously, to avoid the case where this person could continue to cause damage to other artifacts and assets on display at Thai Hoa Palace" - Mr. Trung said.
The security force has proposed equipping additional supporting equipment, including electrical shortcuts - a tool that is considered important. However, the use of these devices requires training from the police to ensure safety.
Currently, the relic area has been installed with a surveillance and warning camera system (usually activated at night). After the incident, the Center proactively contacted technology experts to find solutions to upgrade the security system.
Planning to repair the throne
The Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that after the incident, the unit directed the Hue Royal Antiques Museum to bring the Nguyen Dynasty throne to store and preserve at the antiques warehouse; At the same time, the restoration is displayed at Thai Hoa Palace to serve tourists.
According to the Center, this is a rare incident, although in the past, this unit has implemented many solutions to ensure the security of the heritage site such as: Strengthening the installation of surveillance cameras, developing regulations on assigning security guard duty, organizing mobile forces to regularly inspect relic sites.
To prevent similar incidents, in the near future, the Center will develop a plan to ensure closer security and safety in the heritage site, especially for artifacts and antiques, especially national treasures.
For the Nguyen Dynasty throne alone, the Center will invite experts and artisans to evaluate and develop a suitable restoration plan; at the same time, increase forces and means to ensure the safety of the display system.
"For artifacts, antiques, and national treasures, every week, the Museum's staff conducts cleanings, cleaning, and assess the condition of the artifacts," said the Center's leader.
After inspecting the scene of the throne assault, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said that this was an unfortunate incident, causing serious consequences.
Hue City directs a comprehensive assessment of the incident, requiring relevant units to review responsibilities, learn from experience, and at the same time develop a more effective plan to protect artifacts and relics. The Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the Department of Culture and Sports are assigned to coordinate the implementation, focusing on national-level artifacts, applying surveillance technology, and improving the skills of the security force.
Along with technical solutions, raising awareness of the community, people and tourists is a key factor in heritage protection. The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture and Sports and the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to step up propaganda through information channels, contributing to spreading awareness of preserving and promoting the value of the nation's precious cultural assets, Mr. Binh emphasized.
