Recently, in an article by The New Yorker about HYBE President Bang Si Hyuk bringing the Kpop idol training formula to the US, it was revealed that Usher once invited Jungkook (BTS) to perform with him at the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
But Jungkook could not accept because the male idol was performing his mandatory military service in Korea.
Jungkook enlisted in December 2023 and is expected to be discharged in June 2025. During this time, he has continued to release new music and documentaries, but has not appeared on any performance stages.
Usher remixed Jungkook's song "Standing Next To You" and included it on his album "Coming Home" released in February. After this collaboration, Usher invited Jungkook to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 11, 2024.
Since Jungkook was unable to attend, guest artists performing with Usher at this year's Super Bowl included will.i.am, Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and HER.
If Jungkook had accepted Usher's invitation at that time, he would have become the first Kpop artist to perform at this prestigious event.
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is known as the halftime show during the NFL Super Bowl Finals. After 58 seasons, the Super Bowl Halftime Show has gone beyond the halftime entertainment program to become one of the most anticipated annual stages in the United States.
Many famous artists have performed at this event without a fee, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Bruno Mars, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Rihanna... and this year, Usher.
