The movie “Light Shop” just ended on December 18 with positive response from the audience.
According to Kinolights, the film ranked second among the most-watched Korean original content on Disney+. The first place belongs to the series “Moving” (Super Junior) - also written by Kang Full.
Talking about the success of the two webtoons (online comics) when adapted with the script he wrote, Kang Full expressed his satisfaction: “I am very happy. I was worried, because the story of “Light Shop” was told in a way that was somewhat unfamiliar to the audience.”
The story begins with guests visiting a mysterious lamp shop run by Won Young (Joo Ji Hoon).
They were all unusual in their own way, with features like dirt constantly falling from their ears, fingernails growing on the backs of their hands, or water constantly flowing from their bodies... But the strange thing was that none of them realized what was wrong with them.
The film initially has a mysterious narrative, but then takes a shocking turn when the true identities of the characters are revealed. This is also the reason why “Light Shop” attracts audiences.
“The real story only begins after all the characters appear. I was worried because viewers need to watch episodes 1 to 4 carefully to understand the plot. It was a risky approach, but that was the story I wanted to tell. I am very relieved and grateful that viewers watched and loved the drama,” said Kang Full.
In fact, if the audience/readers have watched or read “Moving” and “Light Shop”, they can see that the characters in the two films mentioned above all exist in a common universe.
Regarding the possibility of expanding “Kang Full Universe” to include his webtoon and hit drama, he said, “I’m currently working on “Moving 2,” but I’m not sure how far I’ll go. I have some sketches in mind, though.
Perhaps no one expected “Light Shop” to follow “Moving,” so it was also unpredictable what I wanted to do next after “Moving.” I’m over 50 now, so I can’t continue this work for too long. However, I still want to immerse myself in this universe and continue working on it.”
Meanwhile, Joo Ji Hoon - the male lead of the hit movie "Light Shop" praised Kang Full's storytelling ability. He said that each individual in the movie brings their own story, and no one is a supporting character.
“We tend to judge others based on first impressions. Statements like, “That person seems like he or she would/wouldn’t be a good fit for me” are often made.
But if we take a step back, observe and think about the person in front of us, we will see that they all have their own stories and it is easier to understand them. And “Light Shop” is a work that tries to convey this message to its audience,” the actor said.
