Based on a online novel, The Judge Returns follows Judge Lee Han Young ( Ji Sung) - who used to be a servant for a large law firm and accidentally traveled back to the past 10 years ago. Given a second chance, he seeks justice by punishing the bad.
Sharing about the reason for participating in the project, Ji Sung believes that this is not simply a story criticizing a specific case or topic, but a deep reflection on the meaning of making the right choice for a person.
I wanted to portray conflicts and human inner thoughts, and felt that this was a work that could ask meaningful questions. That is the reason I decided to participate - he said.
According to the actor, Han Young is a person with a diverse range of emotions, so he focuses on creating a steadfast and lively character. In addition, he tried to clearly express Han Young's emotions, judgments, and changes in value after this person returned to the past.
In The Judge Returns, Ji Sung collaborated with Park Hee Soon (as villain Kang Shin Jin) and Won Jin Ah (as Kim Jin Ah - who has a close relationship with Han Young).
The actor said that thanks to his two co-stars, his process of portraying the character Lee Han Young became more complete. During filming, they had many interesting scenes. With Won Jin Ah, Ji Sung praised the bright energy of his junior.
The actor hopes that The Judge Returns will bring the audience an interesting time and feel how brightly can justice shine in the midst of darkness and chaos.
Meanwhile, the media hopes that the work will "save" MBC's ratings after a series of failed works such as "Reaching for the Moon", "Humanitarian Death", " Bunny's Boyfriend Group"...
The Judge Returns is scheduled to air on January 2, 2026.
