Based on the 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home” by Shim Yoon Seo, “Motel California” tells the story of Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young), who grew up in a country inn called Motel California.
After leaving her hometown to go to Seoul (South Korea) to pursue her dream, 12 years later she returns home and reunites with Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo) - her childhood friend - and also her first love.
The work that replaces the broadcast time of "When the Phone Rings" is still expected because of its similar content to "Welcome to Samdalri" (played by Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hye Sun) because it is the matchmaking of Na In Woo and Lee Se Young - two talented actors of the Korean screen.
Sharing with Elle Korea about her first impression of the character Ji Kang Hee, Lee Se Young said: “In most dramas, the main character is someone who lives an ordinary life before facing an unexpected event and matures as they overcome it.
But Ji Kang Hee is mixed-race and her home is a motel. She faces challenges before she has the chance to assert her own identity. I'm curious to see how the character will overcome those challenges."
Meanwhile, Na In Woo describes his character Cheon Yeon Soo as “the most harmless person in the world.”
“I don't think it's unrealistic to love only one person for your entire life. Of course it's hard to wait for someone, but I think it's something everyone can do.
I focused on expressing subtle emotions to make the character realistic. I imagined what someone who had to endure such a long wait would look like when they got older,” he added.
Regarding her chemistry with Na In Woo, Lee Se Young said, “Yeon Soo’s charm is her kind nature, kind eyes, and strong, upright beliefs. Meanwhile, Na In Woo is calm and has a gentle, cheerful personality. Thanks to him, we are having a great time filming.”
Talking about his personality, the actor affirmed that he is someone who never gives up. “I am not good at giving up. It may be considered stubborn, but I believe that not giving up is an important quality in today's world. I try to look at everything positively.”
“Motel California” is scheduled to air on the evening of January 10, 2025.
