“When life gives you tangerines” is the life story of Ae Soon (IU) and Gwan Shik (Park Bo Gum) - who were born on Jeju Island (Korea) in the 1950s.
The film is notable for being written by famous screenwriter Im Sang Choon of “Fight for my way” and “When the camellia blooms” and directed by Kim Won Seok, who had success with “Misaeng”, “Signal”, and “My Mister”, also starring IU.
During the announcement of Netflix's new projects in 2025, director Kim Won Seok expressed confidence in the film, especially the "chemistry" of the couple IU and Park Bo Gum.
Sharing about the two main characters, the director said: Ae Soon is a lovely girl who, despite facing poverty and the hardships of life on the island, never gives up on finding her own path.
While Gwan Shik is a strong and devoted man who would do anything for Ae Soon. The drama is an adventurous journey of how they overcome life's challenges, both individually and together.

Regarding the collaboration between the two Korean stars, Kim Won Seok revealed: “If I reveal too much in advance, it won't be fun anymore, but they have the best chemistry you can imagine.
People will see a different side of Park Bo Gum than they've seen before, and IU - she'll be able to show all the charming sides of herself that viewers have loved over the years."
Previously, IU also admitted that Ae Soon is more like her than any other character she has ever played.
“Writer Im has great observation skills. She said that she wanted to incorporate traits that I have that are not too obvious into the character. To the point where I said, ‘Oh my gosh, how did you know I had this side?’ after reading the script.”
A special feature of this 16-episode series is that it will be broadcast in multiple weekly installments, with four episodes airing every Friday, from March 7 to March 28.
For this reason, director Kim hopes that the audience will take the time to watch it all the way through before making their judgment.
