The traditional festival commemorating the 156th anniversary of the sacrifice of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (referred to as the festival) takes place from September 28 to 30, 2024.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sau - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports said that up to now, the preparation work has been basically completed. The propaganda, promotion and introduction of activities within the framework of the festival have been strengthened. The work of protecting security, order, traffic safety, fire prevention and fighting, traffic regulation and flow has been ensured.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sau also informed that the ceremony will still be organized according to traditional rituals, but the festival will have new features, promising to attract many tourists. This year's festival will also be organized on a larger scale, with many rich and diverse activities to serve the needs of the people and visitors. Thereby, it also combines patriotic education with promoting the image of the land and people of Kien Giang.
This year's festival has many new features such as the Kien Giang Wanderlust Marathon 2024 held for the first time in Rach Gia City; new rural propaganda in the form of amateur music; an art program to pay tribute to the late meritorious artist and composer Vien Chau; a forum to connect OCOP products in the Mekong Delta region...
Mr. Nguyen Van Sau also emphasized: "Kien Giang is upgrading the festival, strengthening management, renovation, and restoration work... to strive to turn the Nguyen Trung Truc Tomb and Communal House Historical and Cultural Relic into a Special National Relic in the near future."
The 2023 festival welcomed about 1.2 - 1.5 million visitors. All people attending the festival were given free food and drinks.
The Committee for the Protection of the Historical and Cultural Relics of Nguyen Trung Truc Tomb and Communal House also said that this is a unique festival model of the area with a very high sense of community, everyone eats, lives, works together, enjoys the fruits of their labor that they have contributed to the festival and when sick, they are examined and given free medicine. After the ceremony, the remaining offerings from the people are used to help the poor, charity kitchens in hospitals, and social protection centers.
The festival aims to actively preserve and promote traditional cultural values associated with socio-economic development; ensure humanity and promote the role of the people in the activities of the festival. Contribute to educating the tradition of patriotism against foreign invaders among all classes of people, especially the young generation. Especially promote national sovereignty, protect the borders and islands of Vietnam in the current situation.
Previously, on October 10, 2023, Kien Giang held a ceremony to receive the National Intangible Cultural Heritage certificate "Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House Festival - Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province".
