According to the Korea Times, in January, Korean audiences will enjoy many new films with genres - mystery horror, to romance, action comedy.
Notable among them is the film “Dark Nuns” starring Song Hye Kyo and Jeon Yeo Bin, scheduled to hit theaters on January 24.
This is the sequel to the hit movie - “The Priests”, which attracted more than 5.4 million views.
Although “The Priests” director Jang Jae Hyun is not involved in this sequel, “Dark Nuns” retains the realistic yet supernatural world he created — where possessed individuals are saved through intense exorcism rituals.
In this sequel, exorcisms, traditionally performed by male priests, are now performed by nuns Sister Junia (Song Hye Kyo) and Sister Michaela (Jeon Yeo Bin) to save a young boy.
According to Korean newspapers, the change to having a nun as the central character makes the film different from conventional exorcism stories, promising to bring the audience a unique and fresh perspective in the mystery genre.
In addition, Song Hye Kyo's return to the big screen after 10 years, as well as the resounding success of the movie "The Glory", is also a factor that helps "Dark Nuns" receive a lot of attention.
On January 22, “Hitman 2” - the sequel to the 2020 hit action comedy, which attracted more than 2.4 million viewers, will also hit theaters.
Part 2 of the film continues the story of Jun (Kwon Sang Woo) - a former spy - who is now framed by the NIS as the culprit, after a terrorist attack similar to a similar case in his webtoon (online comic).
The project is revealed to have more spectacular and larger-scale action scenes than part 1. Along with that, the humorous details in the film are also reminiscent of Stephen Chow's action films.
Kwon Sang Woo personally revealed that he really liked this project, so the filming location was very interesting. The reason he always exercises and takes good care of himself is also with the purpose of wanting to act in movies like “Hitman”.
Also in January, D.O. will return to the screen with “Secret: Untold Melody” - a remake of the 2007 Taiwanese (Chinese) film “Secret” which is also expected.
The film tells the fantasy romance between Yoo Joon (D.O) - a piano prodigy who is going through a difficult, depressed period in his life and Jeong Ah (Won Jin Ah) - a music student who brings wonderful melodies to the school's old practice room.
