After Christmas and welcoming the New Year with the sweep of legendary songs such as "All i want for christmas is you", "Rockin' around the Christmas tree", "Last christmas"... The hit song "APT." by Rose (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars is making a strong comeback on the Billboard Hot 100 - the weekly chart of the most popular songs in the US.
This week, “APT.” climbed to No. 5, which is also its highest ranking since its release on October 18, 2024. “APT.” has made an impressive comeback.
The song debuted at number eight on the Hot 100 in its first week, then dropped lower in the following weeks, reaching a low of number 34 the week before the new year.
But this week, “APT.” rose 29 spots to No. 5, helping Rose set a record as the first female K-pop artist (both solo and group) in history to enter the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100.
This record makes many audiences believe that, in the group Blackpink, Rose is having the most successful solo music career.
Lisa's highest ranking on the Hot 100 is #70 with "Rockstar", Jennie reached #51 with "One of the Girls", Jisoo has not entered the Hot 100.
Recently, Billboard's music executive, Jason Lipshutz, commented on the development potential of "APT.".
He analyzed: “Die With a Smile” (Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga) is the bigger hit in terms of numbers (ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100), but don't underestimate the importance of the first Hot 100 Top 10 hit from the first member of the group Blackpink.
It was a multilingual global hit that opened up a new audience for a member of one of the biggest K-pop groups in history.
“Die With a Smile” may be popular, but I believe “APT.” will ultimately have a bigger cultural footprint.”
Billboard editor Rania Aniftos commented: “APT. is one of the most attractive songs of the past 6 months.”
On the two global Billboard charts, Global 200 and Global Excl US, “APT.” proved its enduring appeal by spending 10 weeks at No. 1 for over 2 months. This is the first Kpop song in history to achieve this achievement.
Previously, on January 4, “APT.” surpassed 800 million streams on Spotify. “APT.” equaled the record with “Seven” by Jungkook (BTS), becoming the 2 fastest songs by Kpop artists to reach this milestone, after 78 days of release.
On YouTube, on the evening of January 7, the MV “APT.” surpassed 800 million views. This is the fastest Kpop MV to reach this milestone, breaking the previous record set by PSY’s MV “Gangnam Style” in 2012 - which took 131 days.
Globally, “APT.” is the fourth fastest music video to reach 800 million views, behind Adele's "Hello," Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," and J. Balvin and Willy William's "Mi Gente."
Rose also currently holds the record for the highest monthly listeners on Spotify for a K-pop artist, reaching 68.6 million listeners as of January 7.
Jennie has 39.5 million monthly listeners and Lisa has 28.6 million monthly listeners.
It will be very difficult for the next song by the Blackpink member to achieve the same success as “APT.” Not only did it cause a global fever, the achievement of this English song in Korea is equally impressive.
“APT.” achieved 282 hours of Perfect All-Kill (ranked No. 1 on all top Korean music charts according to ichart). Rose is the first member of Blackpink to have a solo song achieve Perfect All-Kill.
“APT.” is still ranking very high in Korea after more than 2 months, only behind G-Dragon’s “Home Sweet Home”, and is expected to maintain its popularity throughout 2025.
