According to Allkpop, in an interview on January 9 at a cafe in Seoul, actress Jo Yuri responded to rumors circulating regarding her salary for appearing in Netflix's hit drama "Squid Game 2."
“Thank you for bringing this up,” said Jo Yuri. “But when I first heard the rumor that I received 4.2 billion won (about $3.15 million), I couldn’t help but laugh. It was something I never imagined, and I was surprised to see that some people actually believed it.”
"I cannot reveal the exact salary, but I can assure you that 4.2 billion won is a completely false amount. I have never seen or even thought of such a number," she stressed.
The actress also shared about the competitive audition process to be able to participate in “Squid Game”. She recalled: “I went through 4 rounds of auditions, including submitting videos, auditioning with assistant directors and directors. It took more than 3 months, and the second round alone lasted about 2 months due to the large number of candidates.”
Jo Yuri also shared about the challenges she faced during this period, including the emotional struggles of appearing in a big project.
“At that time, I was going through one of the most difficult periods of my life. But my last audition was for “Squid Game,” and I felt a deep determination to do it,” the actress said.
Jo Yuri thanked her fans for their support. But she noted that viewers should be able to distinguish between real and fake news. Jo Yuri once again affirmed that she did not receive 4.2 billion won for this role.

In “Squid Game 2,” Jo Yuri plays Jun Hee, a character with a complicated past. She was orphaned at a young age, and her life took a turn for the worse when she fell in love with a YouTuber obsessed with “cryptocurrency” - Myung Gi (Im Si Wan).
Because of listening to Myung Gi, Jun Hee lost a large sum of money in a cryptocurrency scam and fell into debt. After breaking up with Myung Gi, she discovered that she was pregnant.
Myung Gi's disappearance makes Jun Hee's life even more difficult, leading her to join the deadly game. But here, the two meet again.
Jo Yuri is expected to continue appearing in “Squid Game 3” released in the middle of this year.
