Resident Playbook follows the first-year obstetricians and gynecologists at Jongno Yulje Hospital, including Oh Yi Young (Go one Jung), Pyo Nam Kyung (Shin Si Ah), um um Jae Il (Kang You Seok) and Kim Sa Bi ( Han Ye Ji) as they overcome the ups and downs to become doctors and seek their place in society.
Aired on the evening of 12.4, the film "The story of a local doctor's life" achieved a viewer rate of 3.7% - higher than his predecessor "Potato Research Institute" (Kang Tae Oh, Lee Sun Bin starred), but it was still a modest number compared to the weekend films in Korea. To be able to "run long distances", the film needs to focus on the plot and how to build the character.
For example, in episode 1, the story focuses on Oh Yi Young. About the first 10 minutes, the film revolves around the female lead's nightmares. Returning to reality, Yi Young is just an unemployed, discouraged young lady. With a consumer debt of 50 million won (over 900 million VND) payable, she accepted to return to work as a resident physician - a job she had previously given up due to an incident.
Because he did not want to work as a medical doctor, Yi Young's work as a salesman sometimes lost the sympathy of viewers. Her coldness, indifference at work and somewhat superficial towards people around her showed her immature personality. However, everything gradually changed when Yi Young suddenly performed a delivery for the patient.
According to Go one Jung, Oh Yi Young is an easy to treat and harmless character. However, this is not an easy character to show off. If Go one Jung does not perform well, Yi Young has the potential to become a hated doctor on screen, when up to now, the image of the medical profession has always appeared with diligence, enthusiasm, and a high sense of responsibility towards patients as the top priority.
According to director Shin Won Ho - the creator of the film, this is a medical film for young people - those who are new to the profession - who lack experience, both in terms of medical skills and social interaction, are prone to stumbling, often making mistakes, being hurt and gradually becoming smarter. Like Yi Young - they need time to improve.
The crew's choice of the Department of OB/GYN (Obstetrics and Gynecology) as the setting is also reasonable, when on one side is a new life begins, while on the other side is families who may face the loss of loved ones due to illness. This is like a contrast in the mature stories of resident doctors.
Maybe people like stories of spectacular success more than steady progress. However, I think this will be a warm coming of age story. I believe viewers will sympathize and be moved to see the doctors who initially lacked awareness of their duties and responsibilities gradually mature - Shin Won Ho confided.
