Hung Mieu (ie Hung To Temple) worships Mr. Nguyen Phuc Con - father of King Gia Long. During his lifetime, he was not on the throne, but later he was still posthumously honored with the title Hung To Hieu Khang Emperor. The temple was built in the year Gia Long 3 (1804) in the southwest corner of the Imperial Citadel, on the current The Mieu location with the name Hoang Khao Mieu.
In the 2nd year of Minh Mang's reign (1821), Hoang Khao Mieu was moved back to the North about 50m to make room for The Mieu and renamed Hung To Mieu. Hung Mieu is located on the same campus as The Mieu but is separated by a brick wall.
The main temple is located in the center and is a double building, the main hall has 3 compartments and 2 double wings, the front hall has 5 compartments and 2 single wings. Inside, there is a shrine to worship the tablets of Hung To Hieu Khang Emperor and Empress. Sacrifice ceremonies at Hung Mieu are held 5 times a year like at Thai Mieu and The Mieu. At the beginning of the resistance war against the French, in February 1947, Hung Mieu Temple was completely burned. In 1951, Queen Mother Doan Huy Hoang (King Bao Dai's mother) bought an altar from Kim Long and rebuilt it on the old foundation of the main temple. In 1995, this building was renovated again. During this renovation, the temple was painted red and gilded.
According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, this is one of the important worship works in the Hue Monuments Complex, a place to worship King Gia Long's father and mother. Currently, the project has seriously degraded.
