Digital transformation to promote value and resources
Recently, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has won the Vietnam Digital Transformation Award 2024 for applying digital technology to preserve and promote the values of Hue's heritage and culture.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung - Director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center - affirmed: "This is a new approach, helping to realize cultural values in modern life, bringing products with high souvenir value, while connecting consumers with heritage culture in a close and sustainable way".
According to Mr. Trung, the unit has digitized more than 25,000 pages of Han Nom documents, 172 files (relic files, archaeological files, heritage files...), 250 royal decree photos, 295 poetry photos on Hue royal architecture...
As for the Nguyen Dynasty’s precious antiques and artifacts, up to now, there have been 207 precious antiques, including 33 artifacts/sets of artifacts that are national treasures that have been scanned and digitized in 3D. With these correct directions, the center has attracted more tourists and increased revenue.
The success of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center is a testament to the fact that cultural development must be associated with the digitalization process.
In December 2021, the Government issued Decision 2026 approving the program to digitize Vietnam's heritage for the 2021-2030 period. The Decision sets out the following goals: 100% of tangible and intangible cultural heritages and documentary heritages recognized by UNESCO; 100% of special national relics are digitized and applied on digital platforms; 100% of national treasures and heritages in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List are digitized, with priority given to digitization according to social needs.
Vietnam currently has more than 40,000 inventoried relics of all kinds, more than 3,100 relics ranked as national relics. UNESCO has recognized 8 cultural and natural heritages, 14 intangible cultural heritages, and 7 documentary heritages. In addition, there are nearly 200 museums, preserving nearly 4 million artifacts, of which more than 200 artifacts and groups of artifacts are recognized as national treasures and especially the diversity and richness of more than 8,000 festivals.
Digital transformation in the development of cultural industry
On the morning of November 1, the National Assembly discussed in the Hall the Decision on investment policy for the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025-2035 period.
Presenting to the National Assembly, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that there are 4 beneficiaries of the National Target Program on Cultural Development, including world cultural heritages, special national relics and national-level relics, intangible cultural heritages in UNESCO lists, intangible cultural heritages in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List and some intangible cultural heritages with typical values in the form of languages and writings of ethnic minorities at risk of fading away; documentary heritages listed in the National, Regional and World Lists; relics, antiques and national treasures.
The total resources mobilized to implement the program for the 2025-2030 period are expected to be 122,250 billion VND. The digitalization process in the cultural sector is not only a solution to avoid waste but also to maximize resources, especially financial and human resources. The program's goal is to strive for 100% of cultural and artistic units to carry out digital transformation and apply achievements of the 4th industrial revolution.
This is not an easy goal to achieve, but it is one of the urgent requirements for digital transformation, which is not simply the application of digital technology to cultural activities but also the process of establishing a new, advanced and modern production method - "digital production method" in the field of culture - tourism to promote the cultural industry.
