372 people injured and killed in traffic accidents in Ha Tinh

TRẦN TUẤN |

Ha Tinh - In the first 9 months of 2024, there were 321 traffic accidents, killing 170 people and injuring 202 people.

That is the figure just announced by the Traffic Safety Committee of Ha Tinh province. Accordingly, there is an increase of 67 cases (26%), an increase of 23 deaths (16%), and an increase of 47 injuries (30%) compared to the same period in 2023.

Traffic accidents are still complicated, increasing in number of cases, deaths and injuries. The reason, according to the Ha Tinh Traffic Safety Committee, is mainly due to the limited awareness of traffic safety laws of some people at times.

There are also violations such as: not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes; violating alcohol concentration; speeding, reckless driving; not paying attention when crossing the street; changing direction in violation of regulations; driving in the wrong lane or on the wrong side of the road.

Violations of traffic safety corridors still occur in many places such as placing billboards, trees extending onto the road, obstructing visibility at intersections, curved roads, leveling land in traffic safety corridors, illegal connections... causing high potential risks of traffic accidents.

The situation of vehicles transporting construction materials running at high speed, dropping rocks and soil on the road, causing traffic insecurity and environmental pollution, has shown signs of increasing again; especially vehicles transporting construction materials on the routes serving the construction of the North-South Expressway.

Some locations of damaged road surfaces with structural cracks, potholes, faded and ineffective road markings still occur on National Highway 1 and provincial roads, creating potential traffic accidents that still exist but have not been resolved.

Repair and maintenance work by functional units is still slow and untimely; funding for regular maintenance and repair is limited.

The increasing number of road vehicles, especially on key national highways such as National Highway 1, National Highway 15, and Ho Chi Minh Road, is putting great pressure on ensuring traffic order and safety, affecting the situation and effectiveness of controlling and reducing traffic accidents.

Currently, Ha Tinh is synchronously implementing many solutions to reduce traffic accidents. Among them, increasing propaganda to raise awareness of traffic safety compliance, increasing patrols, controlling and handling traffic safety violations, launching a peak month to handle traffic safety violations by school-age children...
