On the evening of December 13, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh - Secretary of the Party Committee of Xuan Tang Ward (Lao Cai City, Lao Cai Province) confirmed the incident of a newborn baby being abandoned in the locality.
“This evening, a local resident discovered the abandoned baby and brought it to the ward health station. According to the information on the paper in the abandoned basket, the baby was born on December 12.
Currently, we have sent out notices to find the child’s relatives. If after about 7 days no one comes to look for the child, the ward will carry out procedures to give away, adopt the child or send him to a protection center according to regulations,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh informed.
Initial information, at around 6:40 p.m. on December 13, at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao extended street, Ms. Duong Thi G (born in 1981, residing in Ban Lau commune, Muong Khuong district), currently residing in group 3, Xuan Tang ward, discovered a newborn baby boy dressed, wrapped in a towel and placed in a basket.
At the time of discovery, there was a bag containing diapers, milk and a letter left by the baby's mother. Afterwards, Ms. G took the baby to the Xuan Tang ward health station to report the incident.
