On January 13, Mr. Cao Minh Duc - Director of the Department of Transport, Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province - signed plan No. 05 on ensuring traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival in 2025.
According to this plan, the Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province requested Rach Mieu Bridge BOT Company Limited to coordinate with relevant functional agencies and localities to ensure traffic order and safety on the roads and bridges managed by the unit, especially to inspect and handle cases of buying and selling encroaching on the roadway and sidewalks that affect traffic safety on the route.
In addition, continue to ban trucks with 3 axles or more from traveling through Rach Mieu Bridge on National Highway 60 during rush hours according to the policy of the Vietnam Road Administration. At the same time, sign a contract with a traffic rescue unit to promptly resolve traffic accidents and collisions to avoid traffic congestion on Rach Mieu Bridge. Proactively open stations and temporarily stop collecting tolls to clear vehicles when traffic congestion occurs at the toll station area.
The Traffic Safety Committee of Ben Tre province requested the Ben Tre Provincial Police to coordinate with the Department of Transport, Tien Giang Provincial Police, and Tra Vinh Provincial Police to have a plan to organize and regulate traffic, be ready to promptly clear and rescue when incidents and accidents occur, and not let prolonged congestion occur to ensure traffic safety on National Highway 60. At the same time, direct the Traffic Police Department to promptly adjust the operating cycle of the traffic light system to suit the traffic situation at intersections on National Highway 60.
In addition, direct the functional forces to strengthen patrolling, controlling and handling violations of road and waterway traffic safety order. In particular, focus on handling violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents and traffic jams such as: violating regulations on alcohol and drug concentrations, speeding, driving in the wrong lane, going in the wrong direction, stopping and parking illegally, etc.
National Highway 60 starts from Trung Luong intersection (My Tho city, Tien Giang province), passes through Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces and ends at Soc Trang city (Soc Trang province), with a length of about 115km. Because this route is significantly shorter than National Highway 1, vehicles traveling from Soc Trang to Ho Chi Minh City or vice versa often choose this route, so traffic density is increasingly high. Every day, over 20,000 cars pass through the Rach Mieu Bridge BOT Toll Station.
At Highway 60 near Rach Mieu Bridge, there are 2 lanes for cars in each direction, but when reaching Rach Mieu Bridge, there is only 1 lane left, creating a "bottleneck" right at the foot of the bridge. Therefore, this location is always in a state of traffic congestion every weekend, especially during holidays and Tet.
