On October 1, the Ministry of Transport approved the task of planning Bien Hoa Airport (Bien Hoa Airport) for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
This airport is located in Tan Phong ward, Bien Hoa city, about 25 km northeast of Tan Son Nhat airport; about 32 km northwest of Long Thanh airport. This is a level 1 military airport with 2 runways, cement concrete structure, size 3,050m x 45 m.
Bien Hoa airport land area is about 967 hectares, with the possibility of arranging about 50 hectares for civil aviation planning.
According to the decision, the scope of the planning study will include the area within the existing Bien Hoa airport boundary and neighboring areas, making the most of the existing infrastructure of Bien Hoa airport, to exploit it in a dual-use direction, both meeting civil transport needs and ensuring national defense and security tasks.
The planning also requires reasonable space arrangement, ensuring the development of Bien Hoa airport is suitable for current and future air transport needs.
This plan is oriented towards the overall development plan of the national airport and seaport system until 2030 with a vision to 2050, and at the same time proposes a suitable investment roadmap.
Bien Hoa Airport must comply with national standards on civil aviation, military airport standards and regulations and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Relevant units will conduct surveys, collect necessary data, and forecast air transport demand to develop detailed planning plans, including airspace, flight routes, and flight methods.
In addition, the plan will also evaluate port development options, including air and ground areas, along with related items to meet future exploitation needs. Environmental protection requirements and basic technical indicators on land and technical infrastructure will also be clearly defined.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is primarily responsible for receiving and completing the planning based on the appraisal results from the Department of Planning and Investment.
In which, the Ministry of Transport is the planning agency, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is the planning unit. The People's Committee of Dong Nai province is the unit that sponsors the planning product.
Planning time is 120 days, not including appraisal and approval time.
Previously, Dong Nai assigned relevant functional units to determine the area to be handed over to study upgrading Bien Hoa airport into a dual-use airport, with an expected capacity of 5 million passengers per year.
