Da Nang City authorities are investigating a particularly serious accident that occurred in the early morning of December 9, on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway.
At about 4:12 a.m., the 16-seat passenger bus with license plate 29B-081.xx was driven by P.V.K. (38 years old, Ninh Binh) was driving, carrying 12 passengers traveling from South to North. When reaching Km71+200, the vehicle suddenly collided strongly from the rear with a tractor-trailer with license plate 15C-360.xx driven by B.M.T. (42 years old, Hai Phong) was driving in the same direction ahead.
The extremely strong impact caused the front of the passenger bus to crush, and passengers sitting in front were seriously injured. At the scene, the two vehicles were severely damaged and were lying a long distance apart.
The accident killed 3 people on the spot, 1 person died at the hospital, and 9 others were injured, including many cases of multiple injuries.
According to initial information from the Traffic Police Department, the preliminary cause was determined to be that the passenger driver was not paying attention to observing, did not keep a safe distance, did not ensure speed, and there were passengers on the vehicle without seat belts, leading to particularly serious consequences.
