Helping people escape poverty
In 2024, Ms. H’Rau H’Dok (Thanh Nhat Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province) was supported with a breeding cow. After a period of care, the mother cow gave birth to two calves, helping her family improve their economy.
Ms. H’Rau shared: “Thanks to the support from the local government, I have effectively implemented a household livestock model. The mother cows continuously reproduce, creating the premise for the family to overcome difficulties and apply to leave the poor household status.
In 2025, if the situation is favorable, I plan to expand the scale of livestock farming, borrow capital to develop the herd, hoping to increase income and repair the dilapidated house."
According to the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot city, in addition to socio-economic development, the locality always considers poverty reduction as one of the key tasks.
The locality is currently implementing Resolution 08-NQ/TU dated January 5, 2022 on sustainable poverty reduction associated with vocational training and job creation for the 2022-2025 period.
The goal is to reduce the poverty rate by an average of 0.05%-0.07%/year and the poverty rate of ethnic minorities by 3%-5%/year, aiming for no more poor households by 2025.
Ms. Bui Thi Phuong Thao - Deputy Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Buon Ma Thuot city said: "Partly thanks to the important support from the National Target Program's capital, the city has been recognized by competent authorities for completing the task of building new rural areas.
This success is thanks to the flexibility of local authorities at all levels, linking sustainable poverty reduction with new rural construction.
Statistics from the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot city show that in 2021, the whole city had 463 poor households and 824 near-poor households.
By the end of 2024, the city will have 145 poor households, accounting for 0.13% of the total number of households. The total number of near-poor households is 435, accounting for 0.40% of the total number of households.
In 2024 alone, the city reduced 84 poor households (reaching 105%) and reduced 109 near-poor households (reaching 109%).
Career orientation for people to escape poverty
Besides the achieved results, the implementation of hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the city still has some limitations.
Specifically, the guiding documents on supporting livelihood diversification and poverty reduction model development are still overlapping, causing difficulties for specialized agencies in advising on implementation.
In addition, detailed regulations on support content, order, procedures and production methods are issued slowly or have to be adjusted, affecting the effectiveness of program implementation.
According to Mr. Pham Tien Hung, Permanent Vice Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee, he emphasized that currently, some localities in the area have not paid due attention to propaganda work to raise awareness about poverty reduction.
The poor themselves in many places still lack the awareness to strive to escape poverty, and still have a mentality of dependence, waiting for support from the State, and being satisfied with their current life. This leads to the risk of falling back into poverty and the emergence of new poor households.
Mr. Hung said that in the coming time, Party committees and leaders at all levels need to directly direct and guide people, especially in ethnic minority areas, to participate in economic development, aiming to escape poverty sustainably.
At the same time, it is necessary to effectively integrate resources in implementing poverty reduction programs to avoid overlap.
Localities need to focus on building and replicating effective and creative models in implementing national target programs.
"Thereby, orienting careers, developing specific key economic sectors, aiming at sustainable poverty reduction and promoting comprehensive socio-economic development for the city" - Mr. Hung affirmed.
