On December 9, the 6th session of the People's Council of Ca Mau province held a question-and-answer session on issues related to environmental pollution, waste treatment, and flooding in many places that voters and delegates were upset about.
Delegate Nguyen Son Ca suggested that the province provide information about waste treatment plants and waste treatment. According to the delegate, voters know that the province currently has a project to build a new waste treatment plant. But this factory has been implemented by the Provincial People's Committee since the beginning of the term, and has not seen it yet.
The delegates of the People's Council of Ca Mau province raised the issue of widespread waste, not being collected much, inadequacies in waste classification, the province's only waste treatment plant stopped operating, the province's solution of collecting and burying is not suitable.
Responding to the delegate, Mr. To Hoai Phuong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province - said: The Ca Mau City Waste Treatment Plant has stopped operating because the investor proposed to consider the cost of waste treatment. The Department will report to the Provincial People's Committee in December so that the province can give instructions on final handling.
Regarding the issue of having a new waste treatment plant project, after a long time of waiting but not yet doing it, according to Mr. To Hoai Phuong, investing in a waste treatment plant to ensure quality requirements, the province welcomes investment but is very difficult.
According to Mr. Phuong, recently some localities have invested in modern waste treatment plants, some places have invested more than 1,000 billion VND, Ca Mau province has a policy to invite 2 plants in the coming time.
Many delegates and voters also proposed solutions to prevent flooding in urban areas. Currently, in urban areas, when going out, the road is flooded. Everywhere is flooded, making travel difficult.
Mr. Pham Van Thieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province - clearly stated that the situation of waste collection and treatment is a pressing issue. The province has not had any factories that effectively handle it to protect the surrounding environment. The solution that the province has proposed in the past is a temporary solution. It is impossible to take trash to bury, if one place is full, another place is burying. Garbage cannot be buried forever, and must be treated according to regulations.
Mr. Thieu stated the reality: "The Ca Mau or Bac Lieu areas do not collect and treat waste thoroughly, still pollute the environment, cannot become civilized urban areas". The Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province suggested that the planning and calling for investment in waste treatment plants must use new technology, not burying it anymore.
According to Mr. Thieu, the construction of the waste treatment plant aims to be a clean place, no more odor, and can even be visited and toured. We are moving towards building a civilized urban area. To do so, there must be resources, shifting from awareness to action, people and the government must accompany each other, Mr. Thieu emphasized.
In his closing speech, the Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province requested the People's Committee, sectors and localities to seriously implement the approved resolutions.
