In recent years, the Quang Phu commune government, along with village elders, village chiefs and prestigious people, have carried out many propaganda activities to raise awareness among the people.
This synchronous participation helps people gradually change their old ways of thinking, gradually eliminating many outdated customs such as superstition, early marriage, wedding challenges... that have existed for a long time in the community.
Not only playing a propaganda role, the locality also creates conditions for prestigious people to participate in grassroots unions and receive training in agricultural and forestry production techniques.
From there, they become a bridge to spread knowledge and experience in developing household economy, helping people be proactive in production and increase income.
One of the outstanding prestigious people is Mr. Y Wang (born in 1966). being loved and respected by the people, he not only mobilized people to abandon bad customs but also directly accompanied them in production and animal husbandry.
Taking advantage of the State's tree and seed support programs, he guides people on the techniques of growing high-quality corn, sugarcane, and rice, helping to increase productivity, ensure food and improve income.
Mr. Y Wang shared: "I have been involved in village trading for decades. Only by changing their thinking and working style can people escape poverty, be content enough and have the conditions to build more spacious houses".
From his enthusiasm, responsibility and prestige, he has created a strong influence in the community.
Meanwhile, Mr. Y Cam - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture - Social Affairs of Quang Phu commune shared that thanks to the support of village elders, prestigious people, the government, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, the movement to eliminate bad customs in Quang Phu has achieved many positive results.
Bad habits such as fortune-telling, superstition, and Algaming are gradually pushed back; a civilized and progressive lifestyle is more clearly formed in people's lives.
The reality in Quang Phu commune shows that when the government is close to the people, understands the people and prestigious people to properly promote their role, the journey to poverty reduction is not far away.
In 2025, there will be 142 poor households and 407 near-poor households in the commune. The People's Committee of the commune will develop a poverty reduction plan and assign targets to departments, self-management boards of villages and hamlets to strive to reduce 50 poor households compared to 2024.
Improve life, social evils decrease significantly
In recent years, Quang Phu has had a strong change. Thanks to social security policies and the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction, people's lives have improved significantly.
Many households have escaped poverty, have the conditions to upgrade their houses and invest in production; social evils have decreased sharply and people's legal awareness has been raised.
In the commune, there is currently almost no situation of ethnic minority students dropping out of school.
Most households have access to electricity and hygienic domestic water; many inter-village roads have been concreted, creating favorable travel conditions and promoting trade.
Mr. Cao Ba Hoang - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Phu commune - said that in the first years of implementing the National Target Program, the locality encountered many difficulties due to limited awareness of the people and persistent bad customs.
However, each cadre, especially the party member, sets an example, trains and enhances a sense of responsibility. They have become a driving force to help people change their thinking, gradually eliminate bad customs, and become rich legitimately" - Mr. Hoang shared.
According to Mr. Hoang, Quang Phu commune will continue to promote propaganda work, mobilize resources for agricultural and rural development, and at the same time encourage people to participate in new production models, apply science and technology to increase income.
He emphasized: "We persevere in the goal of rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, creating a better living environment for people in ethnic minority areas".
