On November 17, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province said that the unit had requested the Ia Ring irrigation management agency to put up warning signs and keep the water level at a safe level.
Previously, the Ia Ring irrigation dam with a capacity of about 10 million cubic meters of water had a large hole in the dam body, creating a dangerous whirlpool. After that, hundreds of people were mobilized to transport rocks to patch the dam.
Because the reservoir had to discharge floodwater downstream to handle the incident, the communes of Ia Tiem, Dun, Ia Glai, Chu Pong and Ia Pal in Chu Se district suffered damage estimated at more than 490 million VND.
Of which, Dun commune suffered the most damage with about 270 million VND including a 1,000m2 fish pond washed away, worth about 70 million VND; Choa Neng irrigation canal was eroded, about 300m long, causing damage of about 200 million VND.
Ia Glai commune suffered losses of more than 130 million VND from rice, fish ponds, pumps, etc.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province proposed to the Provincial People's Committee to assign the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board to hire a consulting unit to assess the incident and propose long-term solutions to ensure construction safety.
The Department also requested Gia Lai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to urgently put up warning signs of danger due to construction incidents and restrict people and vehicles from entering and exiting the incident area.
Gia Lai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited only operates the maximum water level in the reservoir at elevation 684m (spillway threshold elevation) or below.
