During the 2 days (November 13 and 14), the Border Guard Command (BDBP) of Can Tho City organized a propaganda campaign to prevent and combat illegal, unreported, unregulated (IUU) fishing and preventive and containment solutions at An Thanh Ba Border Guard Station and Tran De Fishing Port.
Accordingly, the Can Tho City Border Guard Command has focused on propaganda, combined with small-scale propaganda at seafood export enterprises and fishermen participating in seafood exploitation.
The content of the propaganda focuses on prohibited acts including: exploitation of aquatic products without a license; exploitation of aquatic products in prohibited areas, during the period of ban on exploitation; illegal exploitation of aquatic products of species on the list of endangered, precious and rare aquatic products; illegal exploitation of aquatic products in waters under the management of other regional, national and territorial fisheries management organizations; concealing, forging or canceling evidence of violations of regulations related to exploitation and protection of aquatic resources; preventing or opposing competent authorities to conduct inspections and supervision of compliance with regulations on exploitation and protection of aquatic resources;
In addition, acts such as transferring or supporting ships that have been identified as having illegal fishing activities, except in cases of force majeure; not equipping or not fully equipping or not operating communication equipment and journey monitoring equipment according to regulations; not recording, not recording fully, not submitting fishing logs, not reporting according to regulations; using fishing vessels without nationality or carrying the nationality of a non-member country to illegally exploit aquatic products in international waters under the management authority of a regional fisheries management organization... will also be handled according to the provisions of law.
To prevent and stop IUU fishing, the Can Tho City Border Guard Command recommends that vehicle owners be fully equipped with safety equipment and communication throughout the journey; check and prepare all documents, report to border stations and stations before leaving the port. At the same time, during the practice, fishermen need to strictly comply with regulations, when exploiting far away sea areas, they must pay attention not to violate the boundaries of foreign sea areas. Fully record throughout the exploitation process according to regulations; open journey monitoring devices and communication information for the competent authority to manage and comply with the inspection and control of the competent authority.
