“Extended arm” helps handle traffic safety violations

TÔ THẾ |

In Hanoi, it has become very easy for people to detect violations of traffic order and safety and then report them to the authorities. Each citizen is like an “extended arm” of the authorities in ensuring security and order.

According to the latest report of the Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police, from September 15 to October 15, 2024 alone, the unit has penalized nearly 200 violations through reports from people. Accordingly, the Zalo page "Hanoi Traffic Police Department" received 690 reports, of which 545 reports reflected violations of traffic safety.

Through inspection, verification and direct notification, the units have penalized 166 violations, with a total fine of more than 166 million VND. Common violations include driving into the emergency lane; not wearing a helmet; not obeying traffic lights; carrying bulky goods; driving a vehicle towing another vehicle...

“The fact that people proactively detect and record violations... has contributed to raising people's awareness of voluntarily complying with the law when participating in traffic, overcoming the situation where traffic participants only comply when there is a presence of functional forces,” shared Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia - Head of Hanoi Traffic Police Department.

In addition to the Zalo page "Hanoi Traffic Police Department", on June 28, 2024, the application platform "Digital Capital Citizen" (iHanoi) was officially operated by the Hanoi People's Committee. This is an online interaction channel in the digital environment between people, businesses and city authorities at all levels. Through this interaction channel, people and businesses can comprehensively reflect pressing issues of people's lives to authorities at all levels for timely reception and resolution.

After just over 3 months of operation, more than 9 million people have accessed the application, receiving more than 12,000 feedbacks and recommendations, of which the city's functional agencies and units have handled more than 9,500 feedbacks, reaching nearly 80%.

As of October 16, 2024, account N.M.T reported the situation of cars occupying the sidewalk on Nguyen Khoi Street (Hai Ba Trung District), obstructing pedestrians. In addition to the reported information, account N.M.T also sent photos of the violating vehicles. Upon receiving the information, Hai Ba Trung District Police immediately dispatched forces to the scene to draw up a record of the violations.

According to the reporter's records on the iHanoi application, in just one morning on October 18, more than 60 reports from people were received and resolved by competent authorities. At iHanoi, people can also propose initiatives to develop the capital in areas such as tourism, agriculture, transportation, health, education, environment, etc. This is considered an advantage and a positive aspect that digital transformation has brought and is bringing to contribute to improving the effectiveness of government administration as well as people's lives.
