Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction) has just issued an urgent document to the People's Committees of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces on temporarily suspending the plan to open traffic to put into operation the component project section Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon.
Previously, according to Official Dispatch No. 282/BQLDA2-QNHN dated February 11, the project is expected to officially welcome traffic at 11:00 AM on February 12, 2026 to serve travel needs during the Lunar New Year.
However, through actual inspection and operation capacity assessment, the management unit found that there were situations that did not ensure absolute safety, especially the handling of arising incidents.
To ensure safety for people and vehicles, as well as ensure synchronicity when connecting with other expressways, Project Management Board 2 decided to temporarily suspend the traffic opening as initially planned.
The official operating plan will be announced after the above-mentioned technical and safety issues are thoroughly resolved.
Project Management Board 2 sent an apology and requested local authorities to support widespread information to press agencies as well as people in the project area about this sudden change.
The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project is an important section of the North - South expressway in the east in the 2021 - 2025 period.
Temporarily suspending operation during Tet is a necessary decision to avoid unfortunate risks that may occur when the route does not meet safe operation conditions.
