Providing clean water tanks, changing the lives of villagers in Lien Son Lak

Dak Lak - Lien Son Lak commune has been focusing on supporting people in disadvantaged areas to have clean water to use to improve the quality of life.

Ensuring the health of the people

Lien Son Lak commune is one of the localities with many difficulties in infrastructure, especially in access to clean water. The complex terrain and harsh weather have caused many villages and hamlets in the area to often lack domestic water during the dry season.

The whole commune currently has 31 villages and hamlets. Of which, 24 ethnic minority hamlets are in particularly difficult circumstances; the rate of poor and near-poor households is still high.

Therefore, supporting domestic water tanks for people is practical, especially in the context of the locality implementing the goals of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development for the period 2021-2030.

Ms. H' Yuor Kyang (residing in Buon Drung) said that her family has been a poor household for many years, has many children, and has an unstable income, so life is difficult. "In the dry season, my family often lacks clean water for daily use, and we have to struggle to cope," she shared.

In 2024, her family was supported by the locality with a 1,000-liter water tank. Thanks to that, the family can proactively store water for daily use, without having to spend more money to buy water.

"If I save money to buy water, I can save more to take care of my children's meals," she said.

Equipping water tanks not only helps households proactively source domestic water but also contributes to improving public health. People have the opportunity to use more hygienic water, reducing the risk of diseases related to unsafe water sources.

This is considered an important solution, contributing to improving the quality of life - the core goal of the National Target Program.

According to the Lien Son Lak commune government, Bhok, Drung, Cuor Tak and Dong Guo are the areas with the most serious water shortage. During the peak of the dry season, many households have to go far to ask for water or buy water at high costs, greatly affecting people's lives and production.

Taking advantage of resources of target programs to support people

Mr. Y Kue Kuang - Head of Drung Hamlet - highly appreciated the effectiveness of the policy to support clean water tanks.

According to him, in 2024, about 20 households in the village will be provided with water tanks, contributing practically to poverty reduction. When there is a clean water source, people's health will improve, reduce medical costs, and create conditions for people to focus on economic development.

Previously, many households had to go far to get water, taking a whole session to only bring a few cans for temporary use. Now that there are tanks, people save time and are more convenient in farming, raising livestock, studying and participating in community activities.

"With water tanks, people are very happy. Clean water helps people feel comfortable about their time participating in labor production and economic development, Mr. Y Kue Kuang shared.

Supporting water tanks is considered an important solution to improve the lives, ensure health and environmental sanitation for ethnic minorities. Thereby, creating a premise for households to stabilize their lives, develop the economy and aim for sustainable poverty reduction.

Faced with the shortage of domestic water, the People's Committee of Lien Son Lak commune has proactively mobilized resources from the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas to support people.

At the end of November 2025, the commune approved a list of 99 households in 4 particularly disadvantaged hamlets that are supported with 1,000-liter Inox water tanks according to the domestic water policy.

A representative of the People's Committee of Lien Son Lak commune said that the support was implemented in accordance with regulations and to the right beneficiaries.

Households with tanks will be more proactive in storing water from many sources such as well water, rainwater or water from centralized water supply works. Thereby, reducing dependence on weather and limiting water shortages during the dry season, gradually improving the quality of life.
