At around 8:50 a.m. on February 5, a large fire broke out at a scrap yard in a boarding house in alley 131, Kenh 19.5 Street, Son Ky Ward, Tan Phu District. The fire created a column of black smoke dozens of meters high, causing panic among many residents.
The area where the fire broke out is home to many workers’ dormitories, with many houses serving as both a place to live and a place to collect scrap. The fire broke out so fiercely that people were helpless in putting it out with conventional fire extinguishers.
To ensure safety, many tenants had to move their belongings outside. The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force, Tan Phu District Police quickly mobilized vehicles and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to surrounding areas. A section of Canal 19.5 was blocked to assist in firefighting.
"The area where the fire broke out contained a lot of scrap metal, so the fire spread very quickly. Luckily, the fire department was a few hundred meters away from the scene, so they arrived in time to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading," said Mr. N.V.N (a resident near the scene).
After a short time, the fire was brought under control. Tan Phu District Police are currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
