At around 3:00 p.m. on November 1, residents of Quang Thanh commune, Kinh Mon town, Hai Duong province discovered a fire in a protective forest in the area. At 4:00 p.m., another forest fire continued to appear in Bach Dang commune (also in Kinh Mon town).
According to Mr. Luu Huu Nhan - Chairman of Quang Thanh Commune, Kinh Mon Town, Quang Thanh Commune People's Committee mobilized the maximum human resources of about 100 people including police, military, forest rangers, and militia to create a fire line to limit the spread of the fire. By about 5:00 p.m., the fire was controlled and extinguished. The estimated area of the fire was nearly 1 hectare.
Regarding the fire in Bach Dang commune, Mr. Tran Van Tang - Chairman of Bach Dang commune said that upon receiving the news, the local government immediately mobilized nearly 200 people including civil servants, functional forces and the help of local people to actively extinguish the fire.
According to Mr. Tang, due to the thick layer of ground cover, the large number of fallen trees after the storm, and the dry weather, firefighting efforts encountered many difficulties. By 7 p.m., the fire in Bach Dang commune had been completely extinguished. The estimated area of the fire was nearly 2 hectares.
Authorities are still determining the cause and estimating the area of forest fires in these two localities. These are the third and fourth forest fires in Kinh Mon town since the beginning of October.
