On March 16, a major forest fire occurred in the pine forest area under the Da Lat cable car, near Prenn Pass.
The fire rose high and spread, creating a column of black smoke covering the surrounding residential area, causing suffocation and difficulty breathing for people.
According to Lam Vien Forest Management Board, Da Lat City (Lam Dong), the fire broke out in sub-area 266B, within the scope of the Saigon - Lam Dong project, at around 1:00 p.m.
Immediately after receiving the report, the forest protection force and project staff quickly arrived to put out the fire.
The initial cause was determined to be that people burned grass in the garden, causing the fire to spread to the forest. According to regulations, since the beginning of February every year, burning firewood, even if controlled, is strictly prohibited.
Meanwhile, according to the leader of Lam Dong Provincial Forest Protection Department, it is also possible that the fire originated from unintentional cigarette butts from tourists.
The forest rangers also quickly arrived, coordinating with relevant units to put out the fire. At around 1:30 p.m., the fire was basically under control, preventing the risk of spreading.
In recent days, the weather in Da Lat has been continuously hot and hot, increasing the risk of forest fires. Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate to determine the exact cause of the fire.
