The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch on checking press information reflecting the situation of illegal dumping of waste encroaching on the Red River through Lien Ha commune, Dan Phuong district, turning this area into a construction material storage area. This not only pollutes the environment, but this landfill also affects natural flow, increasing the risk of riverbank erosion and potential flooding, especially during the rainy season.
Regarding this, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh assigned Dan Phuong District People's Committee to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to urgently inspect and clarify the information reported by the press, strictly handle violations (if any); report to the City People's Committee before April 11.
Previously, the press reported that the Red River section flowing through Lien Ha commune (Dan Phuong district, Hanoi city) is struggling with illegal dumping of waste. Recorded in the waste collection area of several thousand square meters along the river.
The existence of this landfill along with some other waste sources appearing right at the source of the Red River Surface Water Plant Pumping Station - which will provide clean water to millions of Hanoians - has left many doubts about the water source and ecosystem around the Clean Water Plant project.
At the landfill, concrete, broken bricks, plastic bags, sacks... buried deep at the edge of the water every day encroach on the river like oil spots swallowing up the entire large riverbed. Not only construction waste, but also household waste is illegally dumped, turning the landscape of the green, peaceful riverside into a messy place.
Local people said that this situation has started for about a month now and is still continuing with a series of trucks continuously carrying waste to dump every day.
