On October 30, 2019, Mr. Do Thiet Khiem - former Chairman of Binh Son District People's Committee - signed a decision approving the investment project to build a road connecting National Highway 1 (District Team section) to Hoc Cam. The project is invested by the Binh Son District Construction Investment Project Management Board. The entire investment capital is from the district budget.
The project aims to concretize the planning for the expansion of Chau Town - 0, modernize the urban transport infrastructure system, exploit land funds on both sides of the route, promote socio-economic development, improve people's lives... The total initial investment was expected to be 45 billion VND, then adjusted down to 34.4 billion VND. The implementation period lasts from 2019 to 2023.
The route is 507m long, designed at a speed of 50km/h, with a two-lane road surface, spacious with full sidewalks, median strips, trees, lighting systems, drainage... It was thought that this would be a project that would create a boost for urban development in the area, but the reality was completely opposite. After completion in the second quarter of 2023, this modern route is... unused.
The reason is that the road is "amputated" in the middle of the rice field. The first point connected to Highway 1, but pulled straight to the west, the sudden ending between the rice field was being cultivated by the people. There is no next connection, no residential area - the route becomes a soulless asphalt in the middle of the field without buttocks.
What makes people even more upset is that while the district still has countless other urgent projects that need to be repaired and upgraded - such as schools, medical stations, and residential roads - the district has chosen to pour tens of billions of VND into a road that no one is using.
Talking to the reporter, the representative of the investor said that the province has approved the land use plan, now has also approved the 1/500 planning in the area of Doi Cam - Hoc Cam street project. The district will call on investors to build residential areas in the project area. When the residential project is invested, Doi Cam - Hoc Cam district roads play the role of the main route to the residential area to promote efficiency.
