The Cau River embankment emergency project in Thai Nguyen is about to be completed

Thai Nguyen - The completion of the emergency embankment project will overcome the landslides along the Cau River, ensuring safety for dozens of households.

As Lao Dong reported, in September 2024, Thai Nguyen province had heavy to very heavy rain causing widespread flooding. This is a historic flood when the water level of the Cau River peaked at 2,881cm, 67cm higher than in 1959.

Rising floodwaters have caused a part of the area near the riverbank in Thanh Dam hamlet to be seriously eroded. The water fluctuates, making people extremely insecure. Local authorities were forced to relocate dozens of households and demolish a series of houses along the riverbank.

Faced with the above situation, in October 2024, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province issued a decision to urgently build a project to overcome landslides on the Cau River bank in Thanh Dam hamlet (Nha Long commune, Phu Binh). The total estimated cost is 25 billion VND.

The embankment is invested by the Provincial Project Management Board for Investment in Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development.

Recorded by PV at the end of May 2025, after a long period of construction, the embankment has been basically completed. A strip of the riverbank that was once eroded has been reinforced to ensure safety. The project is 500 meters long, protecting dozens of households near the Cau River.

Currently, workers are completing the final items after more than 5 months of construction. Human resources are mobilized to pave the embankment and lock the embankment.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai (Nha Long commune, Phu Binh district) said that local people are looking forward to the project's completion. The Cau River bank has changed its appearance compared to the previous flood. Having a solid embankment ensures the safety of people's lives and property. This year's flood season also eases anxiety.

According to the construction unit, the project has so far completed over 90% of the workload. Currently, the final items such as embankment tops, drainage ditches, and embankment locks are being focused on. The project is expected to be completed and put into use in early June.

On May 28, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Chairman of Nha Long Commune People's Committee said that the embankment project is of special importance to Thanh Dam hamlet. When completed, the embankment will certainly ensure the safety of people's lives and property along the riverbank. Especially when the rainy season is approaching. Thereby, helping to stabilize life and develop the economy and society.
