On October 4, at the meeting with voters to prepare for the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Mr. Nguyen Dung, a voter of Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City, proposed to completely stop the production and import of ultra-thin plastic bags and disposable plastic. At the same time, what materials can replace ultra-thin plastic bags, straws, and plastic bottles?
Responding to the petition, Mr. Nguyen Hong An, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang City informed that plastic bags were invented in 1920, this is a great invention for the world, this invention has brought a lot of convenience to people.
In addition, the cost of plastic bags is also very cheap, so finding materials to replace plastic bags is very difficult.
"In 2022, the Government issued decrees on environmental protection. From January 1, 2026, Vietnam will not produce or import ultra-thin plastic bags and hard-to-decompose plastic bottles. However, implementation is still a big problem. Currently, supermarkets use disposable bags, which have little impact on the environment. Plastic bags take 500 years to decompose," said Mr. Nguyen Hong An.
According to Mr. An, Da Nang has now developed an environmental protection project, in which the city is collecting and recycling plastic bottles and nylon bags. Because if they are not collected and recycled, the landfills will not be able to handle it all.
