On December 20, the Binh Thanh Border Guard Station, Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province, said that the unit had just coordinated with functional forces and local fishermen to search and rescue a fisherman whose boat capsized at sea. After nearly an hour of searching, the rescue force rescued the victim and brought him safely to shore.
At 4:00 p.m. on December 19, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong (33 years old), residing in Binh Thanh commune, Binh Son district, used a basket boat to fish on the Tra Bong river, about 300m from Sa Can estuary in Binh Thanh commune, when he was swept out to sea.
At the time of Mr. Cong’s accident, there were strong winds and big waves at the Sa Can estuary. Despite his efforts to row the boat to shore, the bad weather caused the boat to sink. Mr. Cong clung to a styrofoam box and drifted along the strong current. The accident was discovered by people in Binh Thanh commune and reported to Binh Thanh Border Guard Station.
Upon receiving the information, Binh Thanh Border Guard Station mobilized fishing boat QNg 50433 TS, captained by Mr. Nguyen Vien, along with officers and soldiers of the unit, police force, militia and local authorities of Binh Thanh commune to go out to sea to search for the victim.
At 6:20 p.m. the same day, the search and rescue team found Mr. Cong drifting about 0.5 nautical miles from Sa Can estuary. Fishermen on fishing boat QNg 50433 TS and the search team quickly approached, rescued the victim onto the boat, provided medical care and brought him safely to shore.
Currently, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong's health has stabilized. Binh Thanh Border Guard Station and local authorities have handed over the injured fisherman to his family.
