At 10:45 a.m. on December 15, while digging the foundation for a house, a resident in Zone 1, Hong Gai Ward, Ha Long City, discovered a bomb left over from the war buried deep underground.
After receiving the news, the Ha Long City Military Command and local authorities organized a blockade of the scene, and at the same time reported to the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command to mobilize the Engineering force to the scene to survey, assess the level of danger and organize the removal of the bomb.
Initial investigations determined that this was an unexploded 500 pound bomb (weighing nearly 230kg), about 1.54m long, 27.4cm in diameter, left over from the resistance war against the US.
By 3:30 p.m. today, the engineering force had successfully handled the technical work and moved the bomb to the detonation location according to regulations, ensuring absolute safety.
